For the first time in 20 years of working, I realized had a good chance of being fired from my job. It was embarrassing. I know of people who have been fired, but I had never been fired from anything. I always make sure that I do what’s necessary at any job that I’ve had in order to pull my weight. But I tripped and fell when I mowed my lawn one weekend, and the pain just continued on for four weeks after that. I finally ended up going to see a chiropractor in San Jose after about another four weeks of suffering.
My boss never told me that he was upset with me. One of my co-workers, who is also a very good friend, pulled me aside one day and told me that she had overheard my boss complaining about how much time I had taken off due to my back problems to another manager. I knew then that I needed to figure out how to fix my back as soon as possible. I had already been taking aspirin every day, but that wasn’t working well enough. Some days, I could barely get out of my bed.
When I expressed my fear to my co-worker, she told me that all I needed to do was to go see a really good chiropractor. She said she knows a couple of them that could do a really good job with helping me out. I made an appointment as soon as possible so that I could try to get better instead of calling in sick another day. I thought he did a fantastic job. Even though I am much better now, I still go in for monthly treatments. The treatments feel enjoyable and they make me look forward to the next time that I have an appointment.
